Exploring and theorising participation as evidence in health research, policy and practice

There are different forms and practices of participation – in governance and in health promotion. Evidence informed and evidence based policies and practises are now well established. The importance of patient and public involvement is equally recognised. However there is concern that as participation becomes mainstreamed into policy and practice, 'genuine participation' will become less influential.

If data and evidence gathered through participation is seen as equal in value to that gathered through more traditional means, it may be an opportunity for patients and the public to have a genuine influence.

What makes participation meaningful? What value is placed on lay knowledge? How is participation used as evidence in health research, policy and practice?

This international symposium will explore these questions through case studies from the UK, the Netherlands, Romania and South Africa.

Booking is essential to attend this event.
