A Kingston University graduate is getting set to trek 40 miles along the Great Wall of China for charity.
Rachel Maslen, 22, who completed her Bachelor of Law studies last year and is now studying for the Bar, will head off on her journey in September to raise money for Cancer Research UK. She will be accompanied by her sister Laura, 19.
The siblings are no strangers to the suffering caused by cancer, having lost their grandmother to the disease. They hope to raise at least £6000 during their six-day hike. "I've always wanted to see the Great Wall of China and couldn't think of a better way to do it than by raising money for cancer research," Rachel said.
The timing of the marathon walk coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. "There will be between 30 and 50 people taking part, so we hope to end up with a considerable amount of money," Rachel said. The trek is one of several organised by Cancer Research UK in different parts of the world as part of its Ultimate Challenge scheme.
