Heart disease has been identified as the leading cause of death worldwide and, despite advances in medical science and technology, appropriate preventive actions do not seem to be adopted consistently and effectively. Additionally, cardiovascular diseases have become a major health concern among much younger age groups in recent years. This research aims to investigate the cardiac risk perceptions of young adults in Greece, how these can inform preventive behaviours, and what might promote or compromise the development and maintenance of realistic risk perceptions and their translation into effective risk reduction behaviours. The project will address a gap in research literature concerning cardiac disease prevention in Greece where public awareness, and especially young people's knowledge, of cardiac risk is very low and prevention is shaped by diverse understandings of necessity and effectiveness.
My home is in a town near Athens, Greece. When I finished school, I started working as an English language tutor which I am still practicing. In parallel, I was engaged in the radio & advertisement business and I have been writing spot-scrips and doing voice-over ever since. I began studying Psychology in 2008 and I got my Msc in Health psychology in 2014. I have attended several seminars and obtained certificates in Life Coaching, Stress Management and Counselling. My latest certificate is in Adult Education (2017). I have taken part in conferences where I presented papers one of which was my MSc thesis. I have also been doing volunteer work by giving lectures to groups on issues such as stress and emotional intelligence.
