Dr Chris Dyke

About

I joined Kingston University in September 2023, teaching on MSW, BA and Apprenticeship courses in Social Work.

I am a Fellow of Advance HE (formerly the Higher Education Academy) and over the past ten years I have taught across a range of subjects including Research Methods, Social Work, Social Policy, Criminology and Economics. I enjoy bringing new perspectives to challenging problems in social work, and recently updated the third edition of my popular book, Writing Analytical Assessments in Social Work, with findings from my doctoral research on the social psychology of decision-making and the analysis of domestic violence risk.

During a long career in and around social work I have worked as a local authority social worker, independent expert to the courts, consultant to the DfE and OfSTED, lecturer, researcher, consultant and author. I have become particularly interested in the boundaries between social work and policing, and the role played by intensive programmes purporting to change offenders' behaviour.

I have published in journals in social work, public health and criminology, and in professional magazines for social workers and probation officers.

I am also a UK Athletics running coach and am interested in the relationship between physical activity and various outcomes including mental health, addiction and offending.
