I am an animator, researcher and educator and currently senior lecturer and MA Animation course leader in the design school at Kingston School of Art. My practice and research are cross-disciplinary and experimental with a focus on drawing, collaboration and expanded animation.

Teaching and learning

I am course leader for MA Animation. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) awarded by the Creative Education Network, UCA. 

As an educator I have co-led live, collaborative projects with students and practitioners towards exhibitions and performances at the Tate Modern (Tate Exchange), Eclectic, Milton Court and Barbican Exhibition Halls. I have worked with Barbican Creative Learning and Guildhall School of Music (Leadership Programme) to develop peer-led reading groups and practice sound/image research groups.

Research

I was a scientific committee member for the Ecstatic Truth conference 'Decolonizing Animation' (2023) and have presented to the Society for Animation Studies conference (2022). 

I welcome applications from research interests in: animation pedagogy, in particular the role of generative AI in design education, experimental and expanded animation, animated documentary and the decolonisation of animation practice.

Professional practice, knowledge exchange and impact

My animated films have been screened at Annecy and London International Animation Festival (Edge of Frame), the McLaren Awards, Edinburgh International Film Festival, Ann Arbour International Film Festival (Jury Award Winner, 2022); MIKROFAF  (Belgrade), Schick Gallery (New York); Semaphore Gallery (Switzerland), ICA (London), New York Drawing Centre; Kunsthalle Mainz and Musee d'art Contemporain du Val de Marne (France). 

My animation art projects have been commissioned by The Prince's Trust, Barbican Creative Learning, Animate! Channel 4, Suffolk Arts Council and the Gdansk Institute of Art. I have worked as a sound recordist on BBC commissioned documentary films as well as on broadcast production for the NGOs, Black Sash and The Treatment Action Campaign. I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa.
