Ms Mari Jo Valentine

ITE Partnership Professional Lead

In my role as ITE Partnership Professional Lead I work alongside partners to develop and operationalise the strategic vision through identifying and co-ordinating actions arising from inspection, self-evaluation and improvement planning to ensure compliance in relation to ITE/Early Years ITE. Part of my role is also to identify new opportunities for working with a range of partners in ITE, ensuring Quality Assurance and supporting both SCITT and School Direct Partners.

I originally joined Kingston as a member of the Primary Mathematics team; in this role my ongoing mission is to develop students' mathematical confidence and creativity, exploring personal and teacher identity within this subject along the route. I also lecture on the PGCE programme at both Level 6 and Level 7, contributing to the Reflective Teacher Module as well as working as part of the Professional Practice team on the PGCE and BA. In addition to this I am personal tutor on the PGCE course and support students across both courses in settings during placements.

I began my working life as a disillusioned art school graduate and after running art workshops for adults with SEN, entered teaching as a stepping stone to art therapy. However, I realised that I had found my passion and vocation in education, so there I stayed.  I have worked for over 15 years in one of the largest Primary schools in London, teaching across Key Stage 1 and 2 and leading in Literacy, Maths and Geography as well as running specialised support groups with SEN and EAL pupils. I also facilitated the NCTL MLDP programme across the school federation, all of which I thoroughly enjoyed and which helped ready me for the role I now hold
