Beyond Barriers student mentoring calendar

The Beyond Barriers student mentoring scheme runs for six months from November 2023 until May 2024. On this page you will find the programme's calendar of events for both Mentee students and Mentors

Mentee student events 2023/24

Getting support and advice from a mentor can make all the difference, both when you are studying and when you take the first steps on your future career. As a Kingston University student you can benefit from the expertise and guidance of our alumni and experienced industry professionals. Below is a list of the events that you can take part in during the Beyond Barriers student mentoring scheme. 

Information sessions (optional)

Optional information sessions will be held for students who are interested in taking part in the Beyond Barriers student mentoring programme. The events will take place on the following dates:

  • 20 September, 2.30pm
  • 25 September, 1.00pm
  • 27 September, 2.00pm
  • 29 September, 1.00pm
  • 3 October, 1.00pm
  • 5 October, 11.00am
  • 11 October, 2.00pm
  • 13 October, 2.00pm

Application deadline

If you want to take part in the Beyond Barriers student mentoring programme, you must apply by:

  • Sunday 15 October, midnight

Mentee training (compulsory)

Compulsory training for Mentee students is held on the following dates – you should attend one of the sessions:

  • Monday 6 November, 10.00am – 11.30am
  • Monday 6 November, 1.00pm – 2.30pm
  • Tuesday 7 November, 12 noon – 1.30pm
  • Tuesday 7 November, 6.30pm – 8pm
  • Wednesday 8 November, 2.00pm – 3.30pm
  • Thursday 9 November, 12 noon – 1.30pm
  • Thursday 9 November, 6.30pm – 8.00pm
  • Friday 10 November, 10.00am – 11.30am
  • Friday 10 November, 2.00pm – 3.30pm

Monthly drop-in sessions (optional)

Optional drop-in sessions will be held for Mentee students on the following dates:

  • Thursday 11 January, 12.30pm – 1.30pm
  • Wednesday 7 February, 12.30pm – 1.30pm
  • Friday 8 March, 12.30pm – 1.30pm
  • Thursday 18 April, 12.30pm – 1.30pm
  • Tuesday 7 May, 12.30pm – 1.30pm

Mentee workshop (optional)

Optional workshops will be held for Mentee students on the following dates:

  • TBC
  • TBC

Celebration event

A celebration event will be held for Mentee students on:

  • Thursday 23 May, 6.30pm

Mentor events 2023/24

Thank you for giving your time and expertise to students at Kingston University. Below, is a list of the events that you can take part in as a Mentor on the Beyond Barriers student mentoring scheme.

Application deadline

If you would like to volunteer as a mentor on the Beyond Barriers student mentoring scheme, you must express an interest by:

  • Sunday 15 October, midnight

Mentor training (compulsory)

Compulsory training for Mentors is held on the following dates – you should attend one of the sessions:

  • Monday 30 October, 12 noon – 1.30pm
  • Tuesday 31 October, 8.00am – 10.00am
  • Tuesday 31 October, 12.00 noon – 1.30pm
  • Wednesday 1 November, 2.00pm – 3.30pm
  • Wednesday 1 November, 6.30pm – 8.00pm
  • Thursday 2 November, 6.30pm – 8.00pm
  • Friday 3 November, 12 noon – 1.30pm

Mentoring session with Ian Roberts

Ian Roberts will hold a workshop training session for Mentors on:

Monthly drop-in sessions (optional)

Optional drop-in sessions will be held for Mentors on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 10 January, 12.00pm – 1.00pm
  • Tuesday 6 February, 12.30pm – 1.30pm
  • Thursday 7 March, 12.30pm – 1.30pm

  • Wednesday 8 May, 12.30pm – 1.30pm
