Kingston University statement on Union of Kingston Students audit

In April 2022, Kingston University was notified by the Union of Kingston Students (UKS) of allegations raised in relation to official procedures around the elections process followed by the Union. Given the nature of the allegations, the University commissioned an independent internal audit of UKS governance, policies and procedures and the University's statutory responsibility to assure itself of fair and democratic student union elections.

The findings of the audit revealed irregularities in the design and execution of the UKS election process of a sufficiently serious nature to cast doubt on the validity of recent elections. As part of its duties under the Education Act, the University has informed UKS that the union will need to re-run its 2022 elections given the procedural and policy issues with the elections raised by the audit report.
