War and peace: understanding and addressing conflict

We have become accustomed to the idea that war is a permanent feature of life on our planet, much like climate change or global migration. In the UK we witness from afar the catastrophic effects of war on people, environments and cultures in regions directly affected by violent armed conflict. But our attitudes to war and peace are shaped at home, influenced by culture, politics and media. How can we work for peace when we don't know enough about what causes wars?

The topic of war and peace raises fundamental questions for anyone studying criminology, sociology and psychology. We are hosting an exciting week of debates, discussions, presentations, exhibitions and films to expand your general knowledge and enrich your studies.
