Progressive Debates: Higher Education - For Enlightenment or for the Market?

The Higher Education and Research Bill threatens to accelerate the marketization and privatization of English universities, by increasing tuition fees, making it easier for private, for-profit providers to award degrees, and advancing the casualization of academic labour. This debate brings together four speakers to discuss the state of higher education today. What alternative models are there for the organisation and delivery of higher education? How might government-led marketization be resisted? What will be the effects of the Teaching Excellence Framework?
