The Daily Mail and the Stephen Lawrence case

As we approach the 25th anniversary of Stephen Lawrence's murder, Kingston University's Professor of Journalism Brian Cathcart assesses whether the Daily Mail really played the pivotal and progressive role it claims in the case, and its impact on Britain's race relations.

Brian is an important voice in the debates about press standards in the UK. He is also the author of the award-winning book The Case of Stephen Lawrence.

On 22 April 2018 it will be twenty-five years since the notorious race murder in South East London. It is certain to be the occasion for national reflection on the subjects of race and justice, and for discussion about how much has changed. The Mail has made bold claims about its contribution to change; Brian will test those against the record and will also look at the background and ethical basis for the paper's most famous intervention in the case.

It promises to be a fascinating and important event.

Booking is essential to attend this event.
