The Big Read Book Club - Week 1: Breaking news: How to think on your feet

This summer Kingston University wants to keep the Kingston community connected, from new students to alumni and everyone in between. We will be hosting our first-ever series of virtual Book Club meetings, centred around the 2020 Big Read Airhead, written by Newsnight host Emily Maitlis. You'll get to see the chapters of Airhead through the eyes of KU experts in weekly virtual talks from 8 July to 16 September 2020 - a chance you won't want to miss.

This is the first Big Read Book Club talk, and will be focusing on the chapter titled Introduction: The 2am call (p.1).

This week's talk centres on journalism and the art of being ready at a moment's notice. Whether or not you aspire to receive ‘the 2am call' to cover breaking news stories, we are all required to think on our feet from time to time. Fiona O'Brien, course leader of MA Journalism, will share her experiences and advice for responding in a fast-paced world.
