From Research to Practice Seminar: Influential HR in an unpredictable world

This seminar offers academic and practitioner perspectives on priorities for HR to focus on in today's unpredictable world, and the HR capabilities required to influence organisational success. This is the seventh in a series of "From Research to Practice" seminars jointly organised by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and Kingston University London. The key feature of these seminars is that they bring together academic experts from Kingston University and leading practitioners.

Speakers:

Valerie Hughes-D'Aeth ,Chair of the CIPD and Non-Executive Director for DWP

Valerie is Chair of the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) and a Non-Executive Director for DWP (Department for Work and Pensions). She also provides business advice, consulting and mentoring support through her own consultancy (VHD Consulting Ltd), alongside contributing regularly to debates on topical commercial and people related issues.

Valerie is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and has worked in HR/OD for over 35 years across a broad range of large international organisations in both the private and public sectors, including Media and Entertainment, Technology, Construction, Transportation, Support Services, Retailing and Professional Services/Consulting. Most recently, up to the end of 2019, she was Chief HR Officer at the BBC and a member of the Executive Committee.

Having been voted as a Top 3 Most Influential HR Director for 5 consecutive years, Valerie was recognised with an HR Lifetime Achievement Award at the end of 2019. She is passionate about improving organisation capability and business value, while enabling better work and working lives for everyone, as the Future of Work is reshaped.

Dr Jelena Petrovic , Associate Professor - Kingston University London

Jelena is Associate Professor at Kingston Business School and a member of the CIPD's South West London Branch Committee. She has 25 years of experience in teaching and research at universities in the UK and internationally. She conducted research for organisations such as ORC Worldwide (now Mercer), the CIPD, the Guardian, and BT.

Jelena has received the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) and Emerald Publishing Group award for her PhD in Strategic Leadership and Governance from Cranfield University. She was also awarded a Foreign and Commonwealth Office Chevening Scholarship for her Masters in HRM at the University of Surrey.

Jelena is a Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy and an Academic Fellow of the CIPD. She has always been interested in transforming knowledge and ideas into action and has been engaged in industry collaborations and developing partnerships through design and delivery of executive development programmes and consultancy. Examples include Park Plaza Hotels, NIS Gazprom Neft, and Volvo Cars.

Please note:

  • Webinar joining instructions will be sent to you 2 days before the event (with further reminders 2 hours prior to the session and 20mins prior to the session).
  • The webinar will start at 6:30 and run for about 90 minutes.
  • We will record the webinar and will share will people afterwards. We will be using the recording to upload it to CIPD channels.
  • The chat function will be used for participants to engage with the webinar, rather than audio and video, so just be mindful of the login name you use and ensure you are happy for other people to see this.
  • Professional photography and video production may be taking place at the event, and these images and videos may be used on future promotional materials for CIPD.
