KSA is launching the UK's first Toy Invention Programme in partnership with Spin Master, a leading global children's entertainment company. This part-time course uses playful making and critical thinking to explore inspiring ideas, end-user interactions, hands-on prototyping and considers the wider roles of play and impacts of the toy industry.
We'll take students inside the day-to-day business of play at Spin Master, from ideation to pitching, to branding, marketing and production while our base in the creative community at Kingston opens different perspectives—on sustainable approaches to making, diverse histories and futures of play, and cross-discipline, collaborative working. The course also engages throughout with true subject matter experts (children!) through conversations and co-making with a local primary school community.
This course is delivered one day per week over 28 weeks on campus at Kingston University, from September 2022 to May 2023. There are 12 available places and we encourage applicants from different disciplines, age groups and life experiences—from across and beyond design, education, care and other spaces related to toys and games, play, working with children and inventiveness of any flavour.
Join our Toy Invention tutor team in this 90-minute session at our Knights Park campus.
We'll introduce our ethos and aims, curriculum and timetable, practicalities and costs. We'll also walk you through inspiring student work and our making spaces on campus. There will be the chance for informal one-to-one and group discussions and even party bags to take away!
