The Centre for Applied Health and Social Care Research (CAHSCR) engaged in inter-professional applied health and social care research for all social groups irrespective of class, gender, age, ethnicity, sexuality, disability, and mental or physical health needs. We also engage in research pertaining to the education of healthcare professionals, which addresses the key questions and concerns of those using, providing, and commissioning health and social care services. We will do this through undertaking and showcasing research that will enhance evidence-based education, promoting public engagement and maximising the effective organisation and delivery of health and social care services.
Accessing Health Information in Ethnic Communities: Tackling Health Inequalities and Challenges for the Post-pandemic Future
Speakers: Prof Tushna Vandrevala, Dr Kristin Hanson, Dr Celayne Heaton-Shrestha, Prof Lindsay Bearne
The COVID-19 pandemic drew attention to the growing health disparities for some ethnic minority communities and a renewed interest in understanding how health communication is accessed and used by people from diverse ethnic communities. This presentation will present findings from a series of studies conducted by the research team that has explored how health information is accessed and used by ethnic minority communities and how they make assessments about the credibility of health information. We will also explore how ethnic communities utilise COVID-related health information to make health-promotion decisions. We will discuss key challenges opportunities and interventions relating to making health information accessible to minoritised groups.
