The Centre for Applied Health and Social Care Research (CAHSCR) engaged in inter-professional applied health and social care research for all social groups irrespective of class, gender, age, ethnicity, sexuality, disability, and mental or physical health needs. We also engage in research pertaining to the education of healthcare professionals, which addresses the key questions and concerns of those using, providing, and commissioning health and social care services. We will do this through undertaking and showcasing research that will enhance evidence-based education, promoting public engagement and maximising the effective organisation and delivery of health and social care services.
Enhancing the well-being of front-line healthcare professionals in high pressure clinical environments: A mixed-methods evaluative research project
Speakers: Prof Ann Ooms, Dr Celayne Heaton-Shrestha
The last few years have witnessed a growing concern with the well-being of healthcare professionals internationally. A Resilience and Well-being Training Programme aiming to enhance the well-being of front-line healthcare professionals within an Acute Assessment Unit in a large NHS district general hospital in South London was implemented and evaluated. Findings from the mixed-methods research study showed participants' positive experience with the programme and its positive impact on the culture in the Unit. The demand for and value of programmes designed in ways that enable this group of professionals to take part requires a strong commitment from the leadership team. This, however, poses challenges related to sustainability of the intervention. Results and recommendations will be presented during the seminar.
