Architecture and empire in the Grand Duchy of Finland under Alexander I and Nicholas I

This lecture assesses the role of architecture and building projects in making Finland part of the Russian Empire after its annexation in 1809. The speaker will draw parallels to other cities on the borders of the empire and set these building projects in the context of the expansionist and empire-building practices of Russia in the early 19th century
