Speaker(s): Professor Robert East
To mark the end of his long and illustrious career at Kingston University, Professor Robert East will give a valedictory lecture.
Now in his 75th year, Robert has published in the fields of social psychology, health education, marketing and advertising, authoring 45 refereed papers in international journals. Robert's research has focused on a wide range of issues, such as, the way customers use supermarkets, banks and other retail outlets, customer loyalty, and repeat buying. In recent years, he has concentrated on the unanswered questions about the way consumers influence each other's consumption – the field called word of mouth. Today he is regarded as one of the leading scholars on word of mouth research. He has co-authored research publications with colleagues at Kingston and elsewhere, and has inspired and been inspired by over 70 students who did primary research on word of mouth under his supervision during the last 14 years. His acclaimed textbook on consumer behaviour (Consumer Behaviour: Applications in Marketing, Sage; first published in 1990) is a favourite source for those who like a critical and evidence-based approach to the subject. The latest edition of this popular textbook appeared in 2013, and plans are afoot for the next edition with Dr Jaywant Singh as lead author. Robert's work is internationally acknowledged, and he has been honoured by being elected Fellow of both the British Academy of Marketing and the Australasian equivalent.
We are pleased to hear one final lecture from Robert and proud that Kingston University has been his academic home for so many years. We welcome you to join us in giving Robert a fitting farewell.
Following the lecture, you are invited to a drinks reception in Room BS 335.
