Riots Reframed: a screening and panel discussion

A screening and panel discussion based around an independent documentary that presents the English riots of 2011 from the perspective of one young man who was arrested and detained for allegedly taking part in the disorder. The documentary, made while the filmmaker was on a tag and subject to a strict curfew, examines issues of policing, power, racism, prison and war.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion involving:

  • Professor Basia Spalek, Chair in Social Policy, Kingston University
  • Fahim Alam, documentary film maker
  • John Lea, Professor in Criminology and the author of Riots and the Crisis of Neoliberalism
  • Dr Cecilia Cappel, Criminologist, Kingston University
  • Togan Muezzin, undergraduate researcher conducting work on the impact of the riots on Tottenham
