The University provides a number of courses to help you develop your academic English language skills:

Pre-sessional English courses

Improve and develop your academic language skills with an online Pre-sessional English course.

You will also learn important study skills to help you succeed in your degree, and gain an insight into life in the UK.

International Foundation programmes

If you need to improve both your English language skills and your subject grades before applying to Kingston University, completing a course at the Kingston University International Study Centre could be the right path for you. The access courses are run in collaboration with Kingston University and offer progression (subject to achieving required grades) to a selected number of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

International Foundation Year

Reach the language and academic skills required to gain access to a Kingston University London undergraduate course.

International Year One

Develop the language and study skills required to join the second year of an undergraduate course at Kingston University London.

Pre-Masters Programme

Achieve the language and academic skills required for a business and management masters degree at Kingston University London.

If you need to study for your IELTS examination in Britain, we recommend you use a British Council-accredited English language school.

The University has an excellent relationship with Wimbledon School of English that offers a university English language programme designed to help you reach the required level of English for your chosen course.

How we support our students

When you study a main degree course at Kingston University, you will have access to free English language courses throughout the academic year. The programme focuses on the language and communication skills you need to use for your studies – English for academic purposes.

English for Academic and Professional Development

In this free course, you will work on tasks similar to those you will be required to do in your own academic course, covering topics of academic, cultural and general interest. You will also have the chance to meet and work with other students from across the University.

All students have free access to our well-stocked language studio, which offers a range of CDs, audio-visual and printed language learning materials. Individual and small group language tutorials are available.

The English for Academic and Professional Development courses are designed for:

  • international Kingston University students whose first language is not English and/or have not studied in the UK before.
  • home Kingston University students who would like to improve their academic writing and language.

The courses cover:

  • academic writing, communication and seminar skills;
  • study skills and project work; and
  • helps you learn more about Britain and the British way of life.
