Research project: The temporal dynamics of episodic memory with noninvasive brain stimulation

Abstract

My thesis investigates the time course of episodic memory formation in the prefrontal cortex with noninvasive brain stimulation, including transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). I also explore how tDCS can improve memory processes, and I identify the neural correlates of these effects with EEG. My work contributes to a theoretical understanding of cognitive function and a practical basis for future memory treatment.

Biography

I studied Psychology at University of Houston, where I was first captivated by neuroimaging in an fMRI project studying cognitive differences between bilinguals and monolinguals. After I graduated in 2016, I moved to the UK to study Cognitive Neuroscience with Dr Giulia Galli at Kingston University. Here, I  learned a variety of experimental and technical methods to study cognitive processes. I further developed my fascination with understanding cognitive function from multiple perspectives (neural and theoretical basis of the process). I also found a love of teaching and appreciation of teaching excellence.
