Research project: Empirical Studies on Leadership Methods and Effectiveness in large-scale Agile Enterprise Organisation

Abstract

Increased competition, changing customer demands, technical innovations, and swift changes in market environments prompt organisations to introduce organisational agility, in which agile project methodologies and an adapted leadership approach play an important role.

Research shows that leadership behaviour and attributes impact success in organisations as well as in projects. The purpose of this dissertation is to conduct quantitative research to determine how leadership behaviour affect project success in agile project environments.

Throughout the literature review the current body of knowledge related to i) agile organisations, ii) agile project management and iii) leadership methodologies shall be analysed. The behaviour and attributes of leaders will be measured, and results will be related to project success.

The dissertation shall contribute to the knowledge of agile project management, in particular agile project leadership. It is expected to identify leadership behaviours that statistically predict success in project execution.
