Research project: INVESTIGATION OF THE BEHAVIOR OF SILICA FUME COMPOSITE CONCRETE AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURE

Abstract

Distress in concrete due to fire manifests is in the form of cracking and spalling of the concrete surface. The load carrying capacity and the reparability of the structure affected by fire are determined on the basis of critical temperature of the material. Maximum deterioration is expected to occur when the concrete reaches more than 600 degree Centigrade. If the temperature persists for long damage may result in loss of strength leading to collapse distortion buckling as well as disintegration of concrete matrix. Silica Fume is added to the cement concrete to improve its properties specially compressive strength, bond strength and abrasion resistance. Because of its Physical and chemical properties it is a reactive pozzolan.
