Research project: Ignition Delay in Premixed Turbulent Combustion

Abstract

A major issue faced today in a largely populated country like India is the atmospheric pollution by the gases released by vehicles producing significant amounts of nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and other pollution which includes ozone, particulate matter, and other smog-forming emission. The health risks of air pollution are extremely serious. Repercussions due to incomplete combustion will affect the engine performance. A recent study shows that the production of the toxic gases such as carbon monoxide in excess amount, about 90% of the total emission of CO is from the transport sector. Therefore reducing the ignition delay is a necessary requirement for enhancing the engine efficiency as well as for reducing the release of toxic gases from the transport sector. The objective of the present study is to develop strategies for minimizing the ignition delay of the fuel engine through numerical studies.

Biography

I embarked my career as a research student in Fire, Explosion and Fluid Dynamics (FEFD) Research Team under faculty of Science, Engineering & Computing at Kingston University in January 2020 . My research is supervised by Dr-ing. Siva Prasad Reddy Muppala. Following my Masters at Cochin University of Science & Technology, I worked as an Ad-hoc faculty in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. I hold BE in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, Chennai in 2013. Apart from academics, i'm a carnatic music aficionado, have been learning for the past 15 years.
