About
I am a combustion physicist and Senior Lecturer in Thermofluids at Kingston University London, with a research career spanning gas turbine combustion, microbial fuel cells, and sustainable irrigation systems.
I hold bachelor's and master's degrees in Chemical Engineering, both awarded on merit scholarships, from Sri Venkateswara University and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. I subsequently spent five years as a Scientific Collaborator working towards my Doctor Ingenieur (Dr.-Ing.), completed in 2005 in Combustion Physics at Friedrich-Alexander University, Erlangen, Germany, with a research project titled "Modelling of Turbulent Premixed High-Pressure Combustion with Application towards Gas Turbine Combustors."
My recent interests are in staged combustion and ignition of a combustible mixture in premixed turbulent expanding flames.
Following a one-year postdoctoral position at the Institute of Mechanics, Materials & Civil Engineering, Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium, I joined Kingston University as a Research Lecturer in 2006, and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in Thermofluids in 2009.
I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning & Teaching in Higher Education, University College Cork, Cork, Ireland, and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
I teach Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Solar Air Heaters, and Sustainability.
Currently, I'm the Module Leader (ML) of the MSc module ME7755 Advanced Structural Analysis. Previously, I taught ME7725 Green Engineering and Energy Efficiency, where innovative changes to the curriculum design led to a publication in Education Sciences.
I am the founding Editor-in-Chief of Advances in Inclusive Education Research (AIER), a diamond open-access, peer-reviewed journal (free to authors and readers) currently accepting submissions ahead of its inaugural issue, planned for early 2027. AIER publishes research on inclusive education, equity, accessibility, disability and special educational needs, and inclusive pedagogy and policy (aierjournal.uk).
I am the Principal Supervisor for PhD student Sooraj Paleli Vasudevan, whose thesis focuses on numerical simulations and modelling of minimum ignition energy for lean to stoichiometric methane-air mixtures across 1–30 bar. His work has resulted in two publications in Q1 journals: one in Fire (RANS Simulation of Minimum Ignition Energy of Stoichiometric and Leaner CH₄/Air Mixtures at Higher Pressures in Quiescent Conditions) and one in Applied Thermal Engineering (NS simulations and mathematical modelling of minimum ignition energy for lean to stoichiometric methane-air mixtures for 1–30 bar).
I was a Keynote Speaker at the International Conference on Internal Combustion Engines and Oil (ICICE&O), Tehran, Iran, 2024, presenting "Understanding Minimum Ignition Energy (MIE) in Methane-Air Mixtures: Advances in Computational Prediction and Safety Applications."
I am a co-author on a recent publication with AD Ettiyan and Tamilarasan K on a MnCo₂O₄-CV coated dual-chamber microbial fuel cell for pharmaceutical wastewater treatment, published in Bioelectrochemistry.
I am also a co-author on "A Cross-Validated IoT Decision-Support System for Alternate Wetting and Drying Irrigation: Field Performance and Deployment Determinants Across Five Smallholder Water User Associations," currently under review with Smart Agricultural Technology.
I currently serve as Faculty Research Ethics Lead (FREL) for the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and the Environment, and as Co-Chair of the Kingston BAME/PoC Staff Network.
