About
I am a senior lecturer in Computer Science, Head and Founder of the Quantum AI (QAI) Research Group in the Department of Networks and Digital Media, School of Computer Science and Mathematics. I received the PhD degree in mobile satellite communications from the University of Bradford, UK. Over the past 15 years, I have been involved in multiple EU and UK research projects: H2020 ENSURESEC, H2020 EUNOMIA, EPSRC COMCORD, IST FIFTH, IST SatNEx, and Dunhill Medical Trust funded ATDA-BSL, and several industrial related research projects.
My commitment to academic excellence extends to serving as Lead Guest Editor for Electronics | Special Issue: Advances in Quantum Machine Learning, and reviewer for prestigious journals such as Quantum Machine Intelligence, Applied Soft Computing, Journal of Grid Computing, Journal of Pattern Analysis and Applications, IEEE Access.
My research mainly focuses on applying computer vision, deep learning, machine learning and natural language processing in:
- Cyber-physical system security: intrusion detection, anomaly detection, zero trust
- Social media security: fake news detection, deepfakes, information trustworthiness
- Healthcare: early stage dementia diagnosis for BSL users with computer vision, AI for medical diagnosis
- Others: AI-assisted thermal system modelling, tracking/recognising gestures in sign languages, object detection, Internet of Things, heterogeneous networks, ecommerce fraud detection
- Quantum Machine Learning: finance time series forecasting, sustainable energy optimisation, intelligent security systems, social media security.
