Mr Richard Cunningham

Hi, I'm a senior lecturer for both undergraduates and postgraduates at Kingston Uni, in digital media, computer animation, and visual effects. I'm also the Course Leader for the Computer Animation MA. I was recently awarded the Senior Fellowship from Advance HE for my continued commitment and contribution to teaching and learning practices in higher education.

A bit about my background: I have more than 20 years of experience in independent video and audio production. I worked in TV and film production in New York City for 12 years before moving to London to study 3D animation in 2016.

In 2018, I took over the fledgling Computer Animation MA. Since then, I've worked tirelessly to cultivate the course into a vigorous educational experience, deeply rooted in rich and active learning materials, state-of-the-art kit, and a curriculum steeped in industry-relevant software, concepts, pipelines, methodology, all driven by individual creativity and expression. An equally important initiative has been fostering critical employability skills in our students, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, attention to detail, incorporating feedback, working in teams, and effective communication.

Outside of teaching, my hobbies and interests are... eclectic: directing and producing, composing music, writing, as well as a fascination with popular science, culture, biographies, and history.
