Cafe Scientifique – Time to put science in charge of UK drug and alcohol policy

Pop along to Cafe Scientifique and enjoy the discussion over a drink. You don't need to be involved in science or technology to join us – just have an interest and open mind.

Profesor David Nutt will discuss the effectiveness of using the law to control drug use based on his past experience as the head of the ACMD.

He will explore the widespread use of illegal drugs like cannabis, ecstasy and amphetamine and how prohibition of drugs can also lead to increased problems amongst users and profits for criminal groups. He will also cover the media's role in the ‘legalisation' debate and how some illegal drugs can be used as life-changing treatments for Multiple sclerosis, PTSD and cluster headache sufferers.

What to expect

A short informal talk to introduce the topic followed by questions, answers and general discussion. The evening is designed to appeal to anyone with an interest in science and technology – and takes place in surroundings where anyone can feel comfortable asking a question.

So, tell your friends, family and anyone else that springs to mind!
