Kingston Business Excellence Awards 2013

Kingston University recently sponsored one of the award categories at the first Kingston Business Excellence Awards. Peter Christian and Marie Withers from Enterprise Support judged the six businesses who were shortlisted for Best Creative and Media Sector Business.

Neil Latham, Pro Vice-Chancellor and University Secretary presented the award to the winners of the category. Barrett & Coe are a local portrait photography business which now has 35 branches. They provide a range of photography services to mainstream consumer and corporate clients.

More than 200 people attended the glittering inaugural gala dinner and awards ceremony, which was held at the Holiday Inn, Kingston. The event was attended by local businesses and special guest, Ed Davey, MP, secretary of state for energy and climate. The current mayor of Kingston, councillor Penny Shelton also attended.

Speaking at the awards Neil said, "Kingston University is ranked in the top 10 for both best art and design schools in the UK and most innovative design concept in Europe and the Americas. It's great to see such interesting and exciting creative companies in the borough." He went on to say "Kingston University is dedicated to supporting the growth of local businesses in this sector through our expertise across art and design, digital media, architecture and landscape, surveying and planning."

Hosted by Kingston Chamber of Commerce, with the Royal Borough of Kingston and KingstonFirst, the awards are set to become a major annual event in the borough's business calendar. They provide a fantastic opportunity for companies to network and raise their profile as well as benefitting the borough through considerable investment and business growth.
