Dr Claire M. Holdsworth

Early Career Research Fellow

About

An archivist and researcher specialising in artists' moving image, my work explores film, video, performance and sound-based artworks made in the UK between the 1960s and 1990s. Recent projects map the intermedial 'intersections' between these experimental practices in 1970s/1980s London, using archival material and recorded interviews.

Based in the Contemporary Art Research Centre, I maintain ties with the British Artists' Film and Video Study Collection at Central Saint Martins (UAL), where I completed an AHRC funded PhD.

My projects often involve curated events, such as the screenings Towards Other Cinemas (Whitechapel Gallery, 2017) or symposium Writing Histories of the Moving Image (CSM, 2015).

I have written for journals and books, worked as an editorial assistant and catalogued varied collections, resulting in parallel interests in kinetic art, tech/media art and the artists Stefan and Franciszka Themerson.
