Dr Hsein Kew

Associate Professor

About

I am currently an Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at Kingston University since 2015. I started my academic career as a Lecturer in 2007 at Kingston University. I am currently a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).

I completed my undergraduate studies in BSc in Building Technology in Malaysia and was awarded Book Prize for best performance in 1999. I received my PhD in Civil Engineering from University of Strathclyde in Glasgow in 2007, after obtaining MSc in Facilities Design and Planning also from the same University in 2000. I did my PhD research work as Research Assistant, funded by Onyx Environmental Trust Fund. My PhD thesis was among the early pioneering research on rubberised concrete. After completing my PhD, I was employed as Research Assistant working on EPSRC project on Application of Low Density Aircrete Products in 2006 at Kingston University.

Research

My research interest areas are in concrete technology, innovation in concrete for structural applications, recycling and reuse of waste materials in concrete and self-healing concrete.
