Dr Paul Micklethwaite

Senior Research Fellow

About

I am a design educator, researcher and practitioner. I am interested in the impact of the sustainability agenda on our theories and practices of design, and modes of design practice which are explicitly social or take design into new territories. I explore how sustainability challenges all aspects of our visual and material culture. My PhD asked 'What is design?' - which I continue to explore.

I am course leader of MA Sustainable Design, and Director of Research in The Design School. I co-authored the influential course reader Design for Sustainable Change (AVA Academia, 2011). I am an experienced doctoral supervisor and examiner across art, architecture and design. I also have experience of knowledge transfer and business development incorporating sustainable design.
