I joined Kingston University in 2018, following 16 years leading and teaching in London and Surrey. In addition to teaching Secondary English, I held various positions of responsibility throughout my time in schools including Head of English, Whole School Literacy Coordinator, KS5 Subject Lead, and International Baccalaureate Lead.
I established the English PGCE subject route at Kingston in 2018 and continue to lead it. I enjoyed three successful years as Secondary Course/Phase Lead from 2019 where I led a substantive curriculum re-design within the Secondary PGCE in response to policy changes within the sector. I stepped down from Course Leadership in 2022 to develop my research and partnership interests. In addition to my current role as Senior Lecturer and Route Lead for the Secondary English PGCE; I currently lead the PGCE Level 7 module 'Perspectives on Policy, Practice and Professionalism', and teach on the English Subject Specialism for the BA Primary undergraduate degree course.
I am a member of the National Association for Teaching of English where I am the convenor for the regional hub.
I support the development of secondary school partnerships within the School of Education and established and lead on The Kingston Teachers' Research Network which aims to support research endeavour in schools and increase the impact of knowledge transfer and exchange between Kingston University and our school partners. My work on secondary partnership alongside my course leadership contributed to the achievement of Senior Fellowship (SFHEA) in 2023.
I completed a Master's Degree in Research (MRes) at Kingston University in 2024 where my research explored Early Career English teachers' sense of autonomy in their professional practice.
