I am a Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing and my area of teaching expertise is in clinical leadership and management in healthcare. I am the Course Director for the MSc Clinical Leadership programme and lead the newly developed Professional Nurse Advocate programme. My clinical background is in neuroscience nursing specialising in stroke prevention and stroke rehabilitation. For a period of fifteen years I took some time out from nursing to manage my own business and on my return to nursing I became the clinical nursing lead at a large central London NHS organisation during implementation of hyperacute stroke services; I then went on to lead development of a specialist multidisciplinary stroke team across acute and community services. I joined the University in 2012 and in my teaching role I strive to develop and encourage healthcare professionals to become confident and compassionate leaders who are prepared to challenge poor practice to bring about improvements in quality of care. My research interests lie in development of creative and inclusive teaching methods, applying principles of active learning to promote students' personal growth and clinical leadership development.
