Ms Sherryl Mpando

About

As a dedicated Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing, my passion is deeply rooted in both clinical practice and education, where I am committed to nurturing the growth of future healthcare professionals.

My healthcare journey commenced as a compassionate live-in carer, providing crucial support to adults with spinal injuries. This initial experience ignited my determination to make a difference in the lives of individuals facing health challenges. Subsequently, I expanded my expertise by working in a dementia nursing home, laying the foundation for my eventual qualification as a registered mental health nurse.

With a career spanning over 13 years as a mental health nurse, my professional evolution led me from the role of a Band 5 nurse to the esteemed position of a Ward Manager. I have been privileged to support adults and older adults who experience challenges of mental health both on inpatient and community. In addition to my clinical roles, my passion for teaching and training has been a constant driving force. I have served as a Risk Assessment Training and Education trainer, a preceptorship facilitator, and an instructor for care certificate sessions. I have also had the privilege of sharing my clinical expertise with registered general nurses on dementia management as part of an integrated project with acute hospitals. Working in partnership with Mental Health Trusts I delivered a bespoke simulated ligature training for staff across different bands ensuring that healthcare professionals are equipped with essential skills and knowledge.

My holistic approach to mental health nursing, combined with my dedication to education and training, underscores my commitment to the betterment of mental healthcare services. I am devoted to inspiring and shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals, instilling in them not only the necessary skills but also the empathy and understanding that define exceptional patient care.

As I continue my journey, I am deeply committed to shaping the next generation of mental health professionals and I am currently completing MSc in Clinical Leadership.
