About this course
Why choose this course?
This full-time, intensive English/Art and Design foundation course prepares international students for BA(Hons) study in art, design or architecture at Kingston University in September 2013. It is ideal if you:
- need to improve your English language ability;
- already have a focus in an art or design subject area; and
- want to consolidate your application for a BA course at Kingston University.
Course structure
The course consists of two parts – Part 1: English; and Part 2: Art and Design. Successful completion of both parts 1 and 2 allows you to progress onto the relevant BA course of your choice at Kingston University.
Part 1: English
The full time, intensive English programme begins in February, March or April and varies in duration from 15 to five weeks. We will offer you the appropriate length course depending on your English language level. Part 1 will:
- develop your academic English language skills;
- develop your academic study skills for success at university, particularly in the area of art, design and architecture;
- familiarise you with the learning and teaching methods used in art, design and architecture studies at a British university; and
- introduce you to Kingston and the surrounding area.
Assessment: You will be formatively assessed through regular coursework during Part 1, and summatively assessed on five assignments testing writing, reading, speaking and listening. Our assessments are recognised by the UKBA, so you will not have to take an IELTS test at the end of the course. You must pass Part 1 in order to progress onto Part 2. To pass, you must:
- attend a minimum of 80% of the course starting from the first day of the course; and
- achieve an overall grade of 40% with a minimum of 30% in reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Part 2: Art and Design
Having successfully completed Part 1, you will go on to study Part 2 in June. The subject areas covered have been developed from our internationally recognised Art and Design (Foundation) Diploma, and include:
- fashion design;
- graphic communication;
- 3D design;
- interior design; and
- fine art.
