Each year, Kingston University plays an active role in supporting the civic commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day. This takes place on the Sunday nearest to 27 January in the Guildhall.
The event includes presentations, a speech by the Mayor of Kingston upon Thames and the observation of a minute's silence to remember those who lost their lives in the Holocaust and other acts of genocide. It is followed by refreshments.
This is a free event and all are welcome.
The next commemoration will take place at 2.30pm on Sunday 29 January 2017 in the Council Chambers, Guildhall, High Street, Kingston upon Thames KT1 1EU.
To commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day in 2015, the University invited young people living or studying in the Kingston area to submit a piece of art to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp and help keep the memory of those killed in Holocaust alive.
Selected artworks were displayed during the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames' Holocaust Memorial Day on 1 February 2015, where prizes were awarded for the winning entries by deputy mayor of Kingston, Councillor Cathy Roberts.
