Reading lists

Your tutors may ask you to do some reading before your first lecture – so you'll receive a reading list at induction, otherwise reading lists are available in your module guides, which you can access after enrolment.

Health and safety

Health and safety has always been most important aspect of our working lives at Kingston University – please read our health and safety leaflet (PDF) and familiarise yourself with the COSHH assessment form (PDF).

Equipment

You may need to buy some equipment for your course - and, safety boots will be available to buy from the University during enrolment. You will be provided with a lab coat and safety glasses if required and given a voucher towards safety boots.

Computing and mathematics courses

We will provide you with a calculator.

Engineering courses

You will be provided with a calculator. For lab work, you'll be provided with a lab coat and safety glasses and be given a voucher towards safety boots.

For civil engineering and construction management courses – you will also need waterproof clothing and walking boots for fieldwork. You will be provided with a high-visibility jacket and protective safety helmet for site visits.

The surveying courses also include field work and site visits. Some of these will require some form of personal protective equipment. You will be provided with a high-visibility vest. Further requirements will be confirmed nearer the time.

Geography and environmental science courses

You'll need waterproof clothing and boots for fieldwork (more course specific advice will be given during induction).

Environmental science students also need lab coats and safety glasses for lab work.

Geographers and sustainability students undertaking only occasional lab classes can borrow them for the duration of the class.

Geology and earth sciences courses

You'll need waterproof clothing and boots for fieldwork.

Other more specialist fieldwork equipment such as compasses/clinometers, hand lenses, geological hammers or safety helmets can be bought at the University at discount prices.

Pharmacy, chemistry and life sciences courses

You will need your own lab coat and safety glasses - these will be provided for you.

Sport and exercise science courses

You will be required to buy a sports kit that will need to be worn to all practical and laboratory sessions details are below. The order form (PDF) is available to download and your kit will be delivered mid-October.

Exercise, nutrition and health courses

You will require your own lab coat for use during lab sessions. You will be able to purchase this during induction week.
