Student and staff equality objectives

I am pleased to announce the publication of the University's student and staff equality objectives which can be found below.

There is no doubt that the new Specific Equality Duties [Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) Regulation 2011] are challenging especially in the current climate. However, it is a challenge we welcome as it reflects both our own ambition to enhance our student and staff experience and the values of the new corporate plan and strategy.

In 2011 we set up equality objectives task groups to explore staff and student equality issues and identify the areas we should look at more closely. Over the past year the Equality Committee has reflected and considered:

  • the findings of the task groups;
  • feedback from the Equality Advisory Group; and
  • historical and current, quantitative and qualitative data relating to Kingston and the sector.

The result is a set of specific and measurable equality objectives that we think the University needs to focus on. The objectives have been agreed by the Senior Management Team (SMT) and approved by the Board of Governors through the People Committee.

Supporting evidence and high-level plans have been included in the narrative sheet that accompanies each objective and these will be refined in the coming months. Progress against these objectives will be monitored by SMT and the Board of Governors.

We have four years to realise these objectives. We need to work together to ensure we achieve them.
