Curating research

Display

5.00pm 8.00pm

Curation has become increasingly important for art and design researchers in recent years, enabling us to creatively collaborate with different institutions and communicate and engage with a variety of audiences. This is highly visible in Kingston School of Art, where several researchers have been involved in curating exhibitions at high profile venues including the V&A and the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts in the UK, and museums and galleries in countries including Germany, Norway and Spain.

Staff from the Inclusive Health and Wellbeing Research Group, within the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education will showcase pioneering research and innovations which engage people from hard to reach groups such as those with rare diseases or who encounter barriers to healthcare.

Staff will also demonstrate research that aims to help ensure that the healthcare workforce represents the population it serves and redresses any inequalities in healthcare education. These presentations will showcase activities spanning local communities, national agendas and international work. Inequalities in healthcare and higher education are on our doorstep and it takes creative approaches to ensure barriers are recognised and dismantled.

Stand

5.00pm 8.00pm

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is one of the greatest threats to the modern world, and is predicted to cause 10 million deaths per year in the UK and cost the world economy $100 trillion by 2050.

A team of researchers at Kingston University, led by Professor Mark Fielder, is dedicated to tackling AMR, both through research and increasing public awareness.

This stand aims to provide an understanding of AMR and its causes, and demonstrate how AMR is transferred around the environment and how our cutting edge rapid-diagnostic tool for hospitals and vets can help tackle the problem.

Training the next generation of construction industry leaders

Learn about our innovative experiential learning model and its application on the postgraduate quantity surveying fieldwork in Dubai, UAE. In this simulation, the students acted as consultants for a fictitious client who commissioned them to appraise development sites and produce an evidence-based design and cost model for a hospitality project. The students met with local industry leaders and staff from central government and local authorities who supplied information on legislative, cultural matters and business models. The project enabled our students to apply the knowledge and skills they developed as part of the course to solve real-world problems. The project is testament to the impact Kingston University graduates make by creating inclusive designs, a more sustainable built environment and through responsible and ethical professional practice transforming the lives of local communities, improving living standards and boosting economic activity.
