Make it Global Business Workshop Series for Women

As part of the Make it Global project, this is the final of three half-day business workshops for women. It may be possible to attend this as an individual workshop subject to availability.  Please contact us if you are interested.

Workshop series programme

Wednesday 12 March: Design Thinking

Design Thinking is a problem-solving approach which puts customers at the heart of business. Entrepreneurs use Design Thinking in all sorts of ways, including designing products, services, and businesses. This workshop will help you to access this type of thinking as you develop your business models and test concepts with customers.

The session will be led by design thinking expert and entrepreneur Dr Corrine Beaumont from Kingston Business School, ably assisted by Dr Martha Mador from Kingston University. Get a taste for something new!

Tuesday 18 March: Support for your business and researching international markets

The Make It Global project offers SMEs the opportunity to benefit from a six-stage package of specialist support which provides access to transnational business networks, access to experts within the HE/FE knowledge base and brokered entry to new markets.

Support includes The Soft Landing which assists a number of female led businesses to travel overseas and meet business innovation centres where they will be supported to explore a new market for their (business) operations. This support could include advice on legal, financial, cultural and practical issues of doing business in the chosen country.  Liz Choonara, The MiG project manager will deliver this session.

Our second session for this afternoon will be: Researching International Markets. This session will focus on how to determine market potential, assess the competitive environment, the ease of market entry and the presence of qualified partners in a given region. Dr Debra Riley, from the Department of Strategy at Kingston University will look at the resources and activities that can help an entrepreneur research an international market, and identify key data to support decision-making.

Tuesday 25 March: How to do your own PR by Mary Murtagh

Mary is an award-winning newspaper reporter and trained video journalist who knows what ingredients are needed to get businesses media coverage.

She runs workshops across the UK sharing her insider knowledge and trade secrets (like using the 'silly season' to your advantage). She knows what makes the media tick and how to attract their attention.
