Vane Ivanovic Library and Archive

Vane Ivanovic - Olympics signed picVane Ivanovic (1913–99) was an athlete, shipowner, collector, philanthropist, and diplomat. During his many years of exile from Communist Yugoslavia after World War II, he worked towards a democratic and united Yugoslavia.

The Vane Ivanovic Library and Archive reflects his life work. The library contains around 5,000 books focusing on 20th century European history, especially that of the Balkans. Other topics include the Second World War, politics and sports, and there are historic books dating from the 1490s.

Many of the documents in the archive, and some of the books, are in Serbo-Croat. The archive contains materials related to the Berlin 1936 and London 1948 Olympic Games, the Special Operations Executive, shipping and Ivanovic's work for the Consulate in Monaco.

It is asked that at least 48 hours' notice is given for appointments to consult the archival material and Serbo-Croat books in the collection, given the challenges of finding the items needed.
