Accommodation

Summer School students will be housed at one of Kingston University's Middle Mill halls of residence based in Kingston. Each student will have a single study private bedroom with shared bathroom facilities. There will be a suite of 5 rooms sharing a kitchen.

You will benefit from:

  • a central Kingston location, a short walk to the Penrhyn Road campus (where classes take place); Kingston also has fast train links into central London (30 minutes by train)
  • Wi-Fi internet connection: bring your laptop but check that it is dual voltage
  • non-smoking accommodation
  • on-site laundry facilities

Bedrooms and the kitchen will be cleaned weekly, although you should keep the kitchens and bathrooms clean and tidy on a daily basis.

We will provide:

  • bed linen (changed weekly)
  • two sets of towels (changed weekly)
  • pots, pans, crockery and cutlery so you can cook in the shared kitchen, plus cleaning equipment

Things you may need:

  • additional electrical items, (compatible with the UK voltage system) such as desk fans, hairdryers and straighteners. It is a good idea to wait and buy these in the UK, because they must be dual voltage.

Shopping and cooking

We do not offer a meal plan, but you will have access to a shared kitchen so you can prepare your own meals. Learning the British way of shopping and cooking are all part of the cultural benefits of studying at Kingston University for a summer session.

There are supermarkets (grocery stores) in Surbiton and Kingston, plus a daily fruit and vegetable market in Kingston. There are also countless places to eat out.

Computer and internet access

You will be able to use the University's libraries and computing facilities. Wireless internet access is also available in the library.

You will have free internet access on campus and in your halls of residence room. This means you can bring your laptop so check that it is dual voltage. You can either buy a new power cable in Kingston or use a plug adaptor to access the electricity supply. You should not use a voltage converter.
