How to apply for undergraduate study

Kingston University courses have entry requirements based on UCAS Tariff points. These translate your qualifications and grades into a numerical value, so that your entry onto a course isn’t based on which subjects you’ve studied but what combination of qualifications and grades you’ve achieved.

Calculate your UCAS tariff points on the UCAS website. 

How many tariff points you need will depend on the course you are applying for. Please see the entry requirements on our course pages to find out how many UCAS points you should have. For a small number of courses, we ask for specific grades in a particular subject, so please check the entry requirements carefully.

Personal details and qualifications

In the first section of the application, you must provide your personal details. You’ll also need to share information about your existing qualifications and any you’re currently studying.

References

You will need to ask your teacher(s) or other referees to provide you with references. Make sure you ask for a reference with enough time before the submission deadline. However, if you're currently at school or college, it is likely that your teachers will set their own deadlines for your application.

First off, don't panic! It is possible to still apply to university up until the 30th of June. While some courses with a high demand may not consider late applications, others will. So it's definitely worth a shot. Otherwise, you still have plenty of options. These include: 

Phoning your university of choice

If you really want to attend a university, don't be afraid to pick up the phone and call. Ask whether they will still consider your application. A quick phone call is often the quickest way to find out if there are still places available. That way, you won't waste one of your options applying somewhere if they don't have a place to offer you.

UCAS Extra

If you have applied to university but not received any offers, you can use something called UCAS Extra. This system also helps if you've decided to reject an offer and apply somewhere else. UCAS Extra provides another opportunity to apply to a different university. The UCAS Extra option will show up when you sign in to UCAS.

Clearing

Another popular way to get a place at university is through Clearing. Between July and September, any unfilled places on courses are made available. It’s worth noting that these spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

How do I confirm my place?

How you confirm your place depends on the type of offer you receive and whether you meet the conditions of that offer. 

If you have an unconditional offer

We will confirm your place immediately via UCAS Hub.

If you have a conditional offer and have met the terms of your offer

We will confirm your place via UCAS Hub. We'll then send you an email to direct you to online enrolment. If your place hasn’t been confirmed but you’ve met the terms of your offer, it may be because we don’t have all the information we need. We will email you to tell you why we can’t confirm your place. 

If you have a conditional offer and have not met the terms of your offer

Check OSIS (our online student information system) as you may still have got your place. We will send you a password for this when you accept an offer. If you haven’t got a place on the course, we may be able to help you find a place on another course that suits your needs. Just call our admissions hotline to talk through your options. 

How do I enrol at the University? 

After confirming your place on a course, you will need to enrol at the University. We will send you an email directing you to update your details online (stage one of enrolment). You will then get a letter from UCAS (called the AS12 letter) to confirm your place in writing. This letter will tell you if you need to do anything else to enrol on your course.

AAQs are Level 3 academic qualifications designed to prepare learners for university study. They sit alongside A Levels and BTECs and carry UCAS Tariff points.

• Travel & Tourism AAQ

(These may be delivered under awarding bodies such as Pearson, NCFE, OCR and others.)

AAQs attract UCAS Tariff points, just like A-levels, BTECs and other Level 3 qualifications. Your tariff score is based on the size of the qualification and the grade you achieve.

While we recognise and accept the tariff points awarded to AAQs, some courses at Kingston University have specific subject or qualification requirements.

For example:

• Nursing and Allied Health courses may require a science-related qualification.
• MPharm Pharmacy will require A-level Chemistry.
• Engineering degrees may require Mathematics or Physics.
• Education degrees may require evidence of relevant subject knowledge.

In these cases, AAQs are accepted if they meet the relevant subject content as well as the overall UCAS tariff requirement.
