From setting up your University account and accessing Wi-Fi, email, and online learning platforms, to software, printing, and technical support, this page brings together everything you need to get started and find help when you need it. Whether you’re studying on campus or remotely, our team is here to support you every step of the way.

Before you arrive on campus: IT setup
Your IT account will be automatically created after you’ve successfully completed online registration.
Your username is your ID number followed by @kingston.ac.uk.
You will use this account to securely access essential services such as your student email, campus Wi-Fi, and other university systems.
Forgotten password
If you need to reset your password or if you've forgotten it, go to https://forgotmypassword.kingston.ac.uk.
Please make sure you regularly check and update your details, including your mobile phone number and personal email address, so you can continue to access these services.
To access Kingston University resources, you’ll need to set up multi-factor authentication.
- Go to https://mfa.kingston.ac.uk/ and sign in with your username and password.
- There are two ways to set up Multi-Factor Authentication, either by installing the Microsoft Authenticator App on your phone or by receiving a text message.
- If using the app, you can follow the instructions on screen or if you want to receive a text message with a code select the “I want to set up a different method” option below the main text.
- With either method, follow the instructions and once you’ve completed them, you’ll be asked to authenticate and it’s all set up.
The University email is a safe and secure, private email system for students at Kingston University.
It is an important tool for communicating with:
- your lecturers
- students
- faculty staff and peers
Different departments within the University will use the email to communicate with you so it is important to check it regularly.

You can also instal the outlook mobile app from the App Store or Google Play.
The Kingston University mobile app gives you access University information and services, for example:
- campus maps
- Canvas
- course timetables
- IT Support
- KU email
- library account, catalogue and opening times
- live bus information
- PC availability in the Learning Resource Centres (LRCs)
The app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play, there’s also a web version of the KU app.
Canvas is Kingston University’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) used by students to support modules and courses.
The VLE is a key learning resource, and you will use it frequently throughout your course to:
- access learning resources including reading lists and course work.
- participate in learning activities.
- submit assignments.
- receive feedback and marks.canvas.JPG
- communicate with peers and lecturers.
- access your timetable.
Canvas can be accessed via https://canvas.kingston.ac.uk/ or by installing the mobile app from the App Store or Google Play.
To help to protect you against cyber security threats, you should complete the "Cyber security and data protection training" module on Canvas.
The training uses bite-sized sections that can be completed on laptops, mobile phones or tablets at a time that suits.
The course should only take you around 15 minutes.

My Kingston is the central hub for everything you need throughout your time at Kingston University. It provides access to essential IT information and services, including account support, Wi-Fi setup, and service updates, alongside wider University resources such as timetables, wellbeing support, campus news, and key announcements.
You are encouraged to check My Kingston regularly to stay informed about important updates, events, and any changes to University or IT services.
When you arrive: Getting connected on campus
On campus Wi-Fi is available via eduroam, a network connection that provides students with fast access to secure online University resources and the internet. The network is available seamlessly across all campus sites and when visiting many other institutions worldwide.
Connecting an Apple device to eduroam:
- Go to Setting and then go to Wi-Fi
- From the list of available wireless networks, tap on eduroam
- For the username, type your K number followed by @kingston.ac.uk, then type your password in the Password field and tap Join.
- You maybe asked to accept the Radius Server Certificate, if so tap Trust.
- You should now be connected, and a tick symbol should appear next to the eduroam network.
Connecting an Android device to eduroam:
- Open Settings and then find Wi-Fi
- Select eduroam and open settings
- Make sure the following settings are selected:
- SSID: eduroam
- EAP Method: PEAP
- Phase2 Authentication: MSCHAPv2
- CA Certificate Type: “Do not Validate” / "Do not check" if available or Use System Certificates
- Only if you choose "Use System Certificates" in the previous step then use "Do not verify" or use Online certificate status: Request Certificate Status
- If available: Minimum TLS version: Select TLS v1.2 as minimum
- Domain: kingston.ac.uk
- Username/Identity: [email protected]
- Clear the anonymous identity field
- Password: User’s password
- You should now be connected and see “connected” under the eduroam network.
It’s important – and easy – to check in to your lectures. You can either tap your ID card on a card reader located in most rooms or use the SEAtS mobile app, this can be installed from the App Store or Google Play.
There are over 100 Multi-Functional Devices (MFDs) at the University, located across all libraries at each campus and other locations. Each device allows you to print, scan and photocopy.
There are also wide format printers available for larger format prints.
To print, you need to make sure you have print credits. You can purchase print credits via ePay Print.
Open access PCs are available to everyone in the libraries at all four campuses. They are never booked for teaching and are available on a first come first serve basis
Use the “Find a PC” service in the KU mobile app to find a computer that isn’t in use.
We also offer laptops that can be loaned for four hours at a time. These can be found in the lockers in each library.
OneDrive is a cloud-based file storage platform available to all students who need a central online location to save, access and share your files.
To access OneDrive:
- Log in to https://office.com using your K number followed by @kingston.ac.uk and then your password.
- Navigate to the App Launcher on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Select the OneDrive icon.
Microsoft Teams is your ultimate tool for collaboration and communication. Microsoft Teams will be used for online lectures, plus you may be invited to collaborate within a particular Team relating to your course and/or group work.
To access Teams:
- Log in to https://office.com using your K number followed by @kingston.ac.uk and then your password.
- Navigate to the App Launcher on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Select the Teams icon.
As a student at Kingston University, IT Services provide you with a number of great offers and free software, such as:
- Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus for free on up to five devices, saving you around £70.
- Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Anti-virus protection.

When teaching starts: Tools for learning
When you are not on campus, you can use My Desktop Anywhere to access your Kingston University computer desktop.
Once logged in to the service, you will be presented with your computer desktop as if you were logged on to any of the PCs in the University.
Access My Desktop Anywhere via the the KU Apps menu.
AppsAnywhere is the University’s software portal, giving students easy access to the applications you need for your studies both on and off campus.
Through AppsAnywhere, you can quickly find, launch, and install a wide range of academic and specialist University-provided software on your personal devices, helping ensure you can work flexibly from University computers, home, or while travelling.
The KU Digital Office Space (KUDOS) has loads of useful information on all of the Microsoft products including OneDrive, Teams, Outlook, plus useful tips on using the Adobe products.
You can also accessing Linkedin Learning on KUDOS, where you have free access to thousands of expert-led videos to help you build academic, technical, and professional skills at your own pace.
