What is the Elevate programme?
Elevate is Kingston University's engagement programme for students from Black British, African, Caribbean and Black Mixed Heritage backgrounds, helping them build confidence, develop career-ready skills, expand networks and make the most of their university experience.
Through workshops, networking events, community activities and tailored opportunities, Elevate helps students build confidence, develop skills, expand networks and achieve their academic and career goals.
The engagement programme has won several awards:
- Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF): Elevate was recognised as a key factor in Kingston's award of Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Gold status in 2023.
- National Undergraduate Employability Awards: Elevate won Best Widening Participation Initiative in the National Undergraduate Employability Awards 2022.
- Global Careers Summit: Elevate won Best Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (EDI) programme at Global Careers Summit 2021.

I was excited when the Elevate team emailed me about the opportunity to join a Marsh McLennan placement. The application process was straightforward and I was delighted to be selected. The placement gave me valuable practical experience.

There are many ways to get involved, including:
- sharing insights on a Q&A panel event (online or on campus)
- hosting a workshop on transferable skills (online or on campus)
- providing insight days, mentorship, work shadowing or experience
- offering placements, from micro ones of 2–6 weeks or longer
- providing paid internships or graduate roles
- becoming an Elevate Employer Partner
