Social Work BA(Hons): Partnerships with employers and practice sectors

How we work with our sector partners and employers

This course prepares you to practice an exciting profession with excellent employment and career progression opportunities.

Our close partnerships with employers keep the course up-to-date with current developments. Our partners contribute to the design of the programme, plus its management and review.

You will do a placement of 70 days in Year 2 and another of 100 days in Year 3. These will be arranged in blocks to allow you to really concentrate on the development of your practice and to engage fully with the team with whom you are placed.

Please note that placements are arranged with our partner agencies, which are all geographically close to the University. The maximum travelling time to placements will normally not exceed two hours each way from the University.

We have long-standing partnerships with a wide variety of practice settings in the statutory, voluntary and private sectors. Placements are available in field, residential, day care, hospital, prison and service user run settings. They cover all service user groups, including:

  • children and families;
  • people with disabilities;
  • people with learning disabilities;
  • older people;
  • people with mental health problems; and
  • people within criminal justice settings.
