Hundreds of staff, students and volunteers from across Kingston University will be on hand on Thursday to help A-level students and other applicants enrol onto their preferred course ahead of the new academic year.
The University has established a dedicated Clearing Operations Centre with hundreds of additional telephone lines to field calls from prospective students on A-level results day on 14 August and beyond.
“Clearing is an opportunity for A-level students and other applicants with a broad range of qualifications both domestic and international to apply directly to Kingston University to start their preferred undergraduate course this Autumn,” said the University’s UK Admissions Manager Ed Beales. “While the Clearing period runs until classes start in October, A-level results day is always very busy.
“We have hundreds of call operators on standby to answer calls from applicants who may have changed their mind about what and where they want to study and others who may be contemplating a career change and return to university.
“Our call operators are staff and students who work and study at Kingston University. They can provide expert advice on what courses are available through Clearing and what information you need to provide to secure your place.”
Alongside the call operators are more than 300 academics who will be able to answer questions about specific courses and Kingston University’s sector-leading Future Skills programme.
Among them will be Professor of Criminology Marisa Silvestri, who said Kingston offers many benefits for students.
“We’re one of just 26 UK institutions to hold a TEF Gold rating, recognising excellence in teaching, student experience, and graduate outcomes,” she said. “Employability is baked in. Our Future Skills programme develops key employability attributes such as digital literacy, adaptability, and communication. Our close ties with employers provide opportunities for networking, work experience, and skills development.”
Here are the top three tips for securing your place at Kingston University during Clearing:
- Do your homework: Research your course options by visiting our Courses in Clearing webpage. Narrow your list as much as possible and have a second and third option if your top choice is no longer available.
- Be prepared: Before calling our Clearing Hotline, make sure you have your UCAS ID (if you have one) and exam results including level two and three (GCSE and A-Levels/BTEC or equivalent) to hand.
- Be persistent: If our Clearing Hotline is busy, keep trying. Our friendly call handlers are available until 7pm on Thursday, from 8.30am to 6pm on Friday 15 August and from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 16 August.
- Kingston University's Clearing hotline is open 8.30am to 6pm on Friday 15 August and 10am to 4pm on Saturday 16 August, and Monday to Friday from 9am until 5pm until the start of term, excluding the Bank Holiday on Monday 25 August.
- Book onto Kingston University’s Clearing Advice Day on Saturday 16 August.
- Potential students should call 0800 0483 334 (or +44 20 8328 1149 from outside the UK) to speak to the University's friendly and knowledgeable hotline operators who will be able to provide information on courses available and guide callers through their options.
- Calls are free from landlines and mobiles in the UK. International call costs may vary and callers should check with their network provider.
- Students should have their UCAS identification, if they have one, to hand and full details of qualifications, including subjects, grades, dates obtained and exam boards before calling the hotline.
