Nursing, midwifery and healthcare

Our nursing, midwifery and healthcare courses are designed and delivered by experienced, qualified nurses, midwives and other allied health professionals, ensuring your learning is informed by the latest developments in healthcare; offering you the opportunity to gain practical experience. You will work with service users and patients in a wide variety of clinical and community settings. You will also gain practical skills in our newly renovated, state-of-the-art nursing and midwifery skills labs and simulation suites which replicate an actual hospital ward, GP practice and birthing room.

Courses combine essential practical experience with your university education. Using virtual environments, laboratories and simulated scenarios you will gain the skills to put your knowledge into practice.

Our nursing and midwifery courses are accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and we are ranked top in London and sixth in the UK for Nursing and Midwifery (Guardian University Guide league tables 2022).

We also offer professional post-qualifying healthcare and social work courses for experienced practitioners.

Social work

Our social work courses are designed and managed in consultation with employers, partner agencies and those accessing social work services. Recent changes in social work education and regulation have been incorporated into our courses, these include the Chief Social Workers' Knowledge and Skills Statements and revised Professional Standards for Social Workers set by Social Work England.

Our two-year social work masters is supported by the British Association of Social Workers' Professional Capabilities Framework, allowing you to join Social Work England's register of social workers. The MSW Social Work course is accredited by Social Work England, the professional regulator for social work, meaning that on successful completion, you will be qualified to practise as a registered social worker.

You will gain first-hand experience of working with service users to develop the skills you need to become an established practitioner. Kingston is part of one of the largest social work teaching partnerships in the country, working with seven local authorities and two voluntary agencies, offering plenty of opportunity to gain relevant experience. Our state-of-the-art Practice Learning Skills Lab provides opportunities to hone your skills through simulating home visits and recording interviews, reflecting your working environment.
