A Higher Education Corporation and exempt charity
Kingston University is a Higher Education Corporation created by an instrument of government issued by the Privy Council on 26 April 1993, under powers given by the Education Reform Act 1988 (ERA) and the Further and Higher Education Act 1992.
The University is an exempt charity under the terms of the ERA.
The Office for Students is the principal regulator of the University as an exempt charity, subject to the provisions of the Charities Acts 2011 and 2022 and in accordance with the Higher Education and Research Act 2017.

Strategic Review and Financial Statements
Our 2024/25 report demonstrates a strong financial position for Kingston University, with an operational surplus of £6.5 million and a strong cash position of £104.6 million. The University has continued to increase tuition fee income and control its cost base to ensure a financially sustainable position to enable growth and investment.
2024/25 marked a year of significant progress for Kingston University. We have cemented our position as the UK’s leading university for Future Skills, ensuring students develop the human-centric skills most valued by employers. Every undergraduate is now benefiting from our Future Skills approach throughout their degree programme – a radical transformation delivered in just three years and informed by research with industry. We’re also growing the visibility and impact of our research and knowledge exchange activity.
